| Bernard
Cassen followed different university courses simultaneously after
working as senior officer at the Ministry of Research and Industry.
He has at the same time been appointed to various responsibilities
in the associative world.
University: English associate professor, Doctorate, in 1968 he
was one of the founders of the University of Vincennes, which later
became the University of Paris VIII-Vincennes in Saint Denis. He
is currently Professor Emeritus at the European Institute of Studies
of this university and holds the Jean-Monnet European chair in political
science.
Senior Officer: from 1981 to 1985, Bernard Cassen supervised the
interministerial Mission of scientific and technical information
(Midist), in charge of French national and international policy
with regard to scientific and technical databases, edition and scientific
and technical culture.
Journalist: collaborator of Monde since 1967, Bernard Cassen became
in 1973 one of the members of the team established by Claude Julien
of Le Monde Diplomatique. In 1996 he is Director General of this
publishing house of the monthly publication.
Association responsibilities: Bernard Cassen leads ATTAC association
from June 1998 (founding date) to December 2002. He is currently
its Honorary President and coordinates the international commission.
He is member of the International Council of the World Social Forum
(WSF).
Furthermore, Bernard Cassen is Secretary General of the Latin American
House in Paris and treasurer of Media Watch Global NGO, launched
in Porto Alegre at the time of the WSF 2002.
Publications: Bernard Cassen has published hundreds of articles
in outstanding French and foreign journals, mainly in Le Monde diplomatique.
